Our Curriculum - At a Glance

At Marwood Primary School, our curriculum is rooted in our vision of growing learners and shaping futures. We offer a broad, balanced and carefully planned curriculum that supports every child to develop academically, socially and emotionally.

Our curriculum is designed to:

  • build secure knowledge and skills over time
  • encourage curiosity, confidence and creativity
  • support pupils to develop strong learning habits through learning to learn
  • nurture children to show respectful consideration for others
  • enable all pupils to achieve ambitious progress and be well prepared for the next stage of their education and for life beyond school

Through this, we aim to develop confident, capable learners who understand how to improve, take pride in their achievements, and contribute positively to their community.

Learning is organised into four curriculum areas, enabling children to make meaningful connections across subjects while still developing strong understanding in each individual discipline.

How Our Curriculum is Organised

We group subjects into four themed areas to help pupils see how learning connects.

🔬 STEM

Science, Maths, Computing and Design Technology

Children develop problem‑solving, logical thinking and curiosity through practical learning and investigation. They learn how maths, science and technology help us understand and shape the world.

🎨 The Arts

English, Reading, Writing, Oracy, Art, Music and Languages

Strong communication is at the heart of learning. We support children to become confident readers, writers and speakers, while developing creativity, expression and cultural awareness through the arts and languages.

🌍 Humanities

History, Geography and Religious Education

Children learn about the past, the present and the wider world. They develop understanding of different places, cultures, beliefs and viewpoints, helping them grow into thoughtful and informed citizens.

🏃 Physical & Social Development

PSHE, Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) and Physical Education

Personal development is central at Marwood. Children learn how to look after their physical and mental health, build positive relationships and develop confidence, teamwork and resilience.

Curriculum toolkits

To help parents understand what and how children learn at Marwood, each subject has its own Curriculum Toolkit. These are now organised below within each of our four curriculum areas:

  • STEM

  • Humanities
  • Physical and Social Development

Each toolkit provides a clear overview of the subject, including:

  • What children learn
  • How learning builds as children move through the school
  • How teaching supports all learners, including those who need additional support
  • How knowledge, skills and vocabulary are developed over time

You can explore each subject in more detail by selecting the Curriculum Toolkits below, organised by our four curriculum areas.

STEM

In STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), children develop logical thinking, problem-solving skills and a strong understanding of the world around them. The Curriculum Toolkits below outline how knowledge and skills build progressively within each subject.
