Teaching British Values at Marwood School

At Marwood School, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where British values are not only taught but lived every day. Central to our ethos is the value of Respectful Consideration, which underpins part of our approach to teaching and curriculum excellence.

Our Approach to British Values

  1. Democracy: We actively involve our students in decision-making processes through class discussions and a vibrant school council. This helps them understand the importance of having a voice and respecting the views of others.

  2. Rule of Law: Our school rules are clear and consistently applied, helping children understand the significance of laws in maintaining a safe and fair community at Marwood. We teach the reasons behind rules and the importance of following them.

  3. Individual Liberty: We encourage children to make choices in a safe and supportive environment, fostering independence and self-confidence. This helps them understand their rights and the importance of respecting the rights of others.

  4. Mutual Respect: Through our core value of respectful consideration, we teach children to treat everyone with kindness and empathy. This is reinforced through daily interactions, collaborative projects, and community activities.

  5. Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs: We celebrate diversity and educate our students about various cultures, religions and world views. This helps them appreciate and respect the rich tapestry of our society.

Why This Is Important for Our Children

  • Character Building: Teaching British values helps children develop a strong moral compass and a sense of right and wrong, essential for their personal growth and future success.

  • Community Spirit: By understanding and respecting different perspectives, children learn to build positive relationships and contribute to a harmonious Marwood School community.

  • Future Preparedness: In our increasingly globalised world, it is crucial for children to be open-minded and respectful of diversity. These values prepare them to thrive in a multicultural society and in modern Britain.

At Marwood School, we believe that instilling these values from a young age is vital for developing responsible, compassionate, and well-informed citizens. We are proud to partner with our community in this important journey.

Ventrus MAT

Ventrus (formerly The Primary Academies Trust) was set up in 2011 by a group of like minded headteachers who wanted to build a stable and secure platform from which they could grow a network of excellent schools.
